HONING

At AC Honed Tube precision in manufacturing is not just a requirement but a necessity, especially in applications involving complex machinery and hydraulic systems. The honing process stands out as a critical technique for achieving exceptionally smooth surfaces and precise bore dimensions in cylindrical components.

What is Honing?

Honing is an abrasive machining process that improves the geometry of a surface and the dimensional accuracy of cylindrical components. Unlike grinding, honing removes material from the inside of a tube or cylinder to create a precise diameter and a smooth finish.

Applications of Honing

  • Hydraulic & Pneumatic Cylinders: Where smooth surfaces and tight seals are necessary to handle high pressure without leakage.
  • Gears and Bearings: Where precision surface finish is essential to ensure smooth operation and to extend the life of the components.
  • Pump Components: In the oil and gas industry, honing is often used on pump parts, ensuring that components like plungers and cylinders have a smooth surface, reducing wear and improving efficiency.

Hone After Weld

AC Honed Tube also offers a “Honed after Weld” service. The customer will order a unhoned tube and after machining and welding it is returned to AC Honed Tube for final honing. "Honed after weld” typically refers to a finishing process that involves smoothing, polishing, or refining the weld area to improve its surface quality and dimensional accuracy. We are also able to perform the welding process on behalf of the customer where necessary. This significantly reduces the total manufacturing time.

Skive & Burnishing

We also do skive & burnishing. In modern hydraulic applications, the internal finish and dimensional accuracy of cylinder tubes are critical for performance and longevity. At AC Honed Tube, we utilize the advanced process of skiving and burnishing to deliver tubing with an exceptionally smooth, hard-wearing internal surface, produced with unparalleled speed and precision. This technology allows us to provide our customers with superior quality hydraulic cylinders that offer enhanced performance.
